LOOKOUT TOWERS

Lookout tower Mandava

Sulice

The Mandava lookout tower is also a 12-metre high monument. The intention to build it was decided by the members of the District Education Committee in Jílové in 1929. The memorial was to commemorate the events of 1419, when a meeting of supporters of the Hussite movement led by Václav Koranda took place on this site.

The architect Jansta was commissioned to design the memorial. It was opened on 5 July 1931, during a folk festival, the day before the anniversary of the burning of Jan Hus. After World War II the building gradually fell into disrepair. In 1998 it was reconstructed.
